WHEN IS A SIALODOCHOPLASTY PERFORMED?

Sialodochoplasty is usually performed during sialolithotomy in order to prevent re-stenosis or re-narrowing of the ductal system.

The duct may simply be stitched open, or may require a stent to be left in place for 7-10 days in order to heal properly.

This is an example of sialodochoplasty after healing. Notice on the right side of the picture (patient’s left side) that the duct is much larger and more widely open.
