WHAT IS A PAROTIDECTOMY?

The parotid gland is the major salivary gland responsible for the production of saliva in response to seeing or smelling food. It is located on either side of the face in front of the ear.

Parotidectomy refers to the removal of the parotid gland. The gland may be removed partially (superficial parotidectomy) or in total (total parotidectomy).
